Head of Engineering - Full Time, Remote

About the Role

The role will most likely change over time, including leading the strategy on assessing and developing future products. We’re open to discussing various employment and compensation structures. Job Duties

Here is a list of duties that describe what you will be responsible for:

  • Own the entire platform that consists of end-user facing mobile apps, public health facing portals, partner integrations and analytics
  • Interface with product management, and customers as necessary to understand their needs and translate business requirements and product specs into engineering direction
  • Manage, recruit, grow, support and enable the engineering, QA, and operational teams
  • Validate technical requirements with stakeholders, drive prioritization, reduce surprises and improve predictability
  • Help prioritize efforts of the engineering team, drive quality assurance and manage devops roles and efforts.

  • Manager, can get good performance from engineers and build loyalty
  • Significant experience with mobile app engineering and QA

  • Ability to switch between strategy and execution and do what it takes to get things done
  • You’ve worked and thrived in roles with vague titles like “first _____  hire” that have abstract mandates like “make us grow.” You can point to experiences successfully creating and launching
  • You look at a company like us, and you have a vision for how to make it get big and stay great
  • You’re versatile and resourceful enough to figure out how to execute a strategy that employs subdisciplines in which you have just enough experience

Ideal outcomes within 4 weeks

  • Developed and can communicate a deep understanding of the vision, product offering, stakeholders, domain, and current roadmap and timing
  • Built solid foundation for strong relationships with all engineering team members
  • Understood and communicated the top 3 process, workflow, or effectiveness problems of the engineering team. Beginning to plan how to improve. 

Ideal outcomes within 3 months

  • Delivered large complex features that drive high value
  • Contributing technical information toward the effective prioritization of features
  • Implemented first workflow improvements to streamline engineering effectiveness, developer experience, operations and data-sharing across departments and with customers

Location

WeHealth is a completely distributed team. There do seem to be a number of us in California, but that’s not required. 

Compensation 

The cash compensation is at the level of early-stage startups (in the range of $50-80k a year), enough to cover expenses and to make work sustainable. We also offer very generous equity and very good health care and other benefits.  

Timeline 

This position is needed immediately. This is a critical role that we need to fill in order to help service governments and organizations that need these services.
